Affenpinscher

A dog breed that originated in Germany during the 17th century was made famous by its monkey-like expression. The dog gained the nickname Monkey Dog. French breed enthusiasts calls the dog Diablotin Moustachu, a name that means mustached little devil. Affenpinschers were bred mainly to keep rats and other rodents from homes and barns. During the early years of the breed’s existence, these dogs are commonly seen in barns, in stables, granaries and in kitchens keeping these places free of rodents.

Although this breed was made famous by its clownish personality, it soon became apparent that the dog is not only affectionate but has an extraordinary intelligence as well. The Affenpinscher is certainly the correct choice for a dog owner wanting a pet that has the ability to amuse the family with its comic antics.

The dog is a showoff and would take every opportunity to catch anyone’s attention. For that reason, the dog has left its modest corner in barns and stables to be the pampered and highly valued pets that are provided comfortable accommodations including the laps of its adoring owners. An Affenpinscher though has a cunning side. The dog would know how and when to appeal to the owner’ weakness. For so small a dog, it can exploit the family’s weak spots and in no time would conquer the entire household. This dog is highly valued as a family companion because of its admirable qualities but owners must never forget that the dog can be overbearing if allowed.

A spoiled Affenpinscher can easily develop into a little tyrant. The dog has this unwanted behavior of showing a bad temper if its wishes are not granted by its master. This dog will not put up with any kind of teasing especially from unfamiliar faces. Affection and correct training methods will turn this spunky little devil into a lovable toy-like pet that will be the joy of the family.

An Affenpinscher belongs to the toy dog breed . The size makes this dog an ideal choice for an apartment dweller. Unlike other toy breeds, an Affenpinschers exercise requirement is rather high. Owners of this breed have to make sure that the pet is given opportunities to exercise daily. Remember, an Affenpinschers is a hyperactive breed. Apart from the cuddly size, an Affenpinscher forms a strong bond with its human family so that family members may take turns in cuddling the dog. This breed though has to be allowed to expend its energies lest inactivity turn this dog into an obnoxious pet. Well trained and well cared for, the Affenpinscher will be an ideal home companion
